“I was aware you can enter the Basilica for free, but I opted for a guided tour which included going up into the dome. Our guide, Francesca, was excellent. She was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. She not only gave us the factual information, but also the backstory of its construction and the colourful history of the main historical characters. The disappointment was that the company was not aware before the tour of the closure of the crypt or the inner walkway of the Dome, due to a service. Therefore, 2 key parts of the tour- the main reason for opting to choose a paid tour, were not available to us. Francesca was apologetic, but the company has not been proactive in contacting us so far.”
“The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine Hill are spectacular antiquities of Ancient Rome and well worth braving the crowds and heat to explore. We opted for the self guided tour with headsets to tell you about the sites. You download an app, use your own iPods and are given a QR code to access the tour information. The audio quality was very good, but unfortunately the app itself was confusing and disjointed, so it was not easy to navigate and link the audio information with what you were seeing. I also found the information overly factual and lacking the context to bring it to life. I ended up abandoning the audio tour and just wandering around.”
